Kyuhyun and Sungmin stayed at the park til sunset. Both of them stayed quiet, still letting things sink in.
"Is it okay if I tell Mr and Mrs Cho about this tomorrow?"
Kyuhyun smiled weakly then nodded.
"You know, I would understand if you would start hating me now."
Kyuhyun looked at Sungmin. His hyung was looking blankly at a distance.
"You know I never could."
Sungmin looked at his dongsaeng who was still looking at him.
Sungmin was deciding if he would tell Kyuhyun that he would not be able to take it if his dongsaeng would hate him.
He decided not to.
Kyuhyun accompanied Sungmin in bringing the sad news to his parents. Once Sungmin had said that he would be leaving soon, the two adults looked at Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun face was not sad but it did look blank.
When sungmin left, Kyuhyun sat at the couch. Mrs. Cho sat beside her son and put her arm around his shoulder.
"I am happy that you have been very mature about this."
Kyuhyun looked up to his mother.
"Sungmin has gone home... you can now start showing how you really feel."
Kyuhyun sighed and bit his lip.
"I'm okay, Umma. Don't worry about me."
"Really? They offered you a scholarship in Japan? I told you, you're good."
"I almost decided not to go..." Kyuhyun looked down.
"... but because of me, you decided to do so."
"You shouldn't think of me when it's about your future."
[Like how you're leaving me for yours...] Kyuhyun bit his lip. He so wanted to say that out loud but that would be immature and he don't want to add his hyung's burden anymore.
"I might go there this summer."
"After classes huh... Don't you think this is nice? Both of us will be aiming for something..."
[This is good. To be optimistic about it]
But his heart begged to differ.
Sungmin requested for Kyuhyun to do a sleepover before he leaves for Europe. As Kyuhyun arrived at the house, he saw it was almost empty. The only ones left were the big furnitures that had been covered with cloth. He went straight upstairs and saw Sungmin's room was the same. All that's left were the bed and some big bad that he assumed was Sungmin's things.
"Oh you're here," Sungmin looked up. He was writing his name and the new address in Europe.
The whole place reeks of depression and Kyuhyun felt suffocated by it.
Sungmin was at the bathroom and Kyuhyun was just looking around the room. Then he saw the dresser that still has Sungmin's colognes. He stood up, picked up one bottle and smelled it. As he breathed it in, he realized it was the scent Sungmin always uses.
[Well.. I AM pissed that he's leaving.]
Kyuhyun placed the bottle in his pocket. As he turned around, he saw Sungmin by the door, wearing his pajamas and a towel on his neck. He was looking at Kyuhyun with arms crossed.
"What are you doing..?"
"You could've asked me for it. I wouldn't say no."
"But I want to steal it."
Sungmin raised an eyebrow.
"Because I am pissed,"
"Why my cologne then?"
"Because I like your scent! I want to keep it with me! Even if you're gone, I want it to stay with me!"
Sungmin thought Kyuhyun was just joking like the way he always used to but was surprised when he didn't saw his dongsaeng move from where he's standing.
Kyuhyun covered his eyes with the back of his hand so Sungmin would not see.
"I-I'm sorry. I just- I can't keep it in any longer. This hurts... This hurts so much for me."
Sungmin went to Kyuhyun and held his hand to take it away from his face.
"Come," Sungmin pulled Kyuhyun away from the room.
"Where are we going?"
Sungmin brought Kyuhyun to the room where the piano is.
"I want you to play for me."
"But... the only piece I know was the one you taught me."
"So? Play it for me?"
Kyuhyun took the cologne from his shorts' pocket and gave it to Sungmin.
"No, you already stole that. It's yours. Now play for me."
Kyuhyun was still hesitant but Sungmin was already seated in front of the piano and was testing the keys.
Kyuhyun pouted but sat beside Sungmin. He tried to remember the right keys and started playing. After one set, he looked at Sungmin.
"Who said you could stop?"
Kyuhyun played again, this time, continually. Soon enough Sungmin joined him.
Kyuhyun smiled secretly. Sungmin was trying to cheer him up.
Kyuhyun's eyes slowly opened. He can't sleep much. The light coming from outside was still dim. All he can see in front of him were Sungmin's packed bags.
Reality was dawning itself on him.
[Right, he still has to leave.]
He changed his position because he didn't want to stare at those bags. As he shifted to face Sungmin, he realized his hyung wasn't asleep. He was just lying there, looking at the ceiling. When Sungmin felt the bed move, he looked at Kyuhyun and smiled at him.
"Hyung... there's nothing good about it."
"There is, I woke up and you were there beside me."
Kyuhyun and Sungmin both lied on bed as they waited for time. They both stared at the ceiling until Kyuhyun started to talk.
"After this, I will now start wondering where exactly on Earth you could be."
"So will I."
There was a knock on the door.
"Mr. Sungmin, the car would be arriving soon. It's better if you would wait downstairs." The maid said from the other side of the door.
"I'll be there."
Sungmin stood up and sighed.
"So... It's time to say goodbye."
"Please don't say that, it's like you're asking me to break down." Kyuhyun said as he stood up too.
"Do you think we can still talk when you get to Europe?"
"I can still call you."
"But I will be in Japan."
Sungmin was about to talk more but no words came out.
"Do you think, you’ll forget about me?"
Kyuhyun had his head down. It was a question he didn't want to be answered but he just had to ask.
"Of course not."
"Hyung..." Kyuhyun's voice started to crack.
"I'll miss you so much."
Sungmin can never take Kyuhyun crying. He bent down to look Kyuhyun in the eye.
"Kyu-ah. Do you know what date today is?"
Kyuhyun looked up as he pondered and Sungmin wiped the tears from his eyes.
"Please close your eyes."
"Just close it."
Kyuhyun closed his eyes and sniffed.
Then he felt a hand over his eyes.
"Yah, hyung, why-"
"Cause you might be cheating..."
"You're the only one who does tha-"
Kyuhyun's words were cut when Sungmin placed a finger on his dongsaeng's lips. Then as Kyuhyun felt the finger leave, another thing replaced it… something soft and gentle.
It was Sungmin's lips on his.
After ending the kiss, it was only then that Sungmin uncovered Kyuhyun's eyes.
Kyuhyun's cheek was so red. He looked at Sungmin, like waiting for an explanation for what had just happened.
"It's my gift for you since you gave something to me last Valentine's."
Sungmin hugged Mr and Mrs Cho. Then he bowed in front of them after.
"Thank you so much for taking care of me. You had been very kind to me and I don't know how I could ever repay it."
The two adults smiled.
"You must take care," Mr Cho said.
Then Sungmin went to Kyuhyun.
"Can I get a hug?" Sungmin said with open arms. Kyuhyun shyly walked up to him and engaged himself in a hug with his hyung.
"You know... I did that because I knew what you did when I was asleep last summer," Sungmin whispered to his ear.
Kyuhyun's eyes widened.
Sungmin let go and looked Kyuhyun in the eye.
"Promise me you'll take care of yourself."
Kyuhyun nodded, but still in shock.
Sungmin breathed in and smiled as he exhaled.
"You were the one who made my stay here unforgettable. Thank you."
Sungmin turned around and the chauffer opened the car door for him. He gave one last nod to Kyu's parents and one last smile to Kyuhyun. Then he went inside the car.
As the car went away, Sungmin looked at the back window until he can't see them anymore. Then he inserted his hands in his jacket and felt something. He pulled it out and saw it was a small paper.
I'll find you. ~Kyuhyun
Until the last minute, he felt how much he mattered to Kyuhyun.
It was dinner time and Sungmin arrived at the dining room. At the long dinner table were the food cooked by their chef. He sat at the end of the table and looked around. His parents were working late again and he's the only one home.
Sungmin looked at the empty seats around him and it caused a sinking feeling in his stomach.
He took the silverwares and started slicing the steak on his plate. After one bite, the thoughts of how happy he used to eat at the Cho's residence hit him.
And as he chewed, tears started falling from his eyes.
He finally felt he was back to where he used to be. He was back to being alone.
But what makes this scene different is that he’s not crying because of his solitude. His heart is breaking apart because he misses Kyuhyun so much.
